Professional Standards Workshop

2017 COST:     $40* per person (invoiced to your home congregation)

To update Safe Place training or to complete initial ChildSafe Team Member training you need to participate in a Professional Standards Workshop (PSW).

If your parish or congregation is looking at refreshing Safe Place training or running a ChildSafe Team Member course, ask about hosting a workshop by contacting our Professional Standards Officer, Dave Biar.

A new national congregational training model is now being rolled-out across Australia and New Zealand.  The core module upacks the Standards of Ethical Behaviour policy.  It is introduced by LCA/NZ Bishop, John Henderson through a new Lutheran Media video production.

ChildSafe Team Member Refresher

COST:           $22 per person
DELIVERY:    Online test

Your ChildSafe Team Member training is due to be refreshed every three years.  You can do this simply by completing the online quiz at the link below.

Please note:

  • That we are unable to accept refreshers for training which has expired more than 3 months ago. You will instead be required to complete a full Professional Standards Workshop. Please contact us to discuss your particular situation if required.
  • We ask for a payment of $22 to help cover the costs associated with this test.  Camping ministry leaders are exempt from this cost.
  • Payment options are included after successful completion of the test.  If your congregation will be paying, please email us as soon as possible after completing the refresher so that we can send the invoice directly to your congregation.

On successful completion and payment of the above amount, we will update your records and issue a certificate by email.

ChildSafe Team Leader Training

COST:           $15 per person
DELIVERY:    Online Webinar

This training applies specifically to the ChildSafe system, and is a level above ChildSafe Team Member.

Team Leaders (TLs) are appointed in congregations/ministries to oversee a ministry program for children and youth. TLs are responsible for completing the online program and submitting this to their Coordinator for approval before the activity, or program, is undertaken. TLs are also responsible for the Team Members assigned to them and their program and are generally expected to ensure that each Team Member’s training and paper work is up to date prior to any program proceeding.

The way in which this position is implemented in each congregation may be slightly different, however their primary role is the same – to supervise a group of Team Members.

This workshop is delivered via an online webinar, this means that the trainer is located at the District Office in front of his computer while you are at home in front of yours.

We recommend that participants use a computer headset with a microphone; this allows you to ask the trainer questions during the training session. You may type these questions if you do not have access to a headset.

ChildSafe Coordinator Training

COST:           $15 per person
DELIVERY:    Online Webinar

This position is, again, one level higher than ChildSafe Team Leader.

Each congregation is expected to appoint and train at least one Coordinator (preferably two, neither should be their pastor) to oversee the implementation of the ChildSafe system within their congregation or parish.
Coordinators are generally responsible for appointing Team Leaders,
ensuring all leaders are fully compliant, accessing and approving acitvities and safety plans, granting permission to proceed, activating emergency response if needed.

Coordinators are supported by the Risk Management Officer (in the District Office), and more broadly by their congregational leadership.
